St. Columba
(or Colmcille, Columcille, Colm or Colum)
Feast Day: June 9
Patron Saint of Poets, Publishers, Princes, Priests, Warriors, Diplomats, Scholars, and Sailors

The symbolic imagery:
Colmcille rests in front of his monastery at Iona (not as it looked in his day, but a few centuries later). In the distant background is the sea and a coracle sails off (borrowed from St. Brendan's anachron.) A book is open at his feet and a faithful shepherd dog keeps watch.
The border is formed by images inspired by the Book of Kells and a dove soars over all. The tartan pattern is an interpretation, created by combining adaptations of the Malcolm clan and St. Colmcille.
