Martha

St. Martha plaqueFeast Day: July 29

Patron of Cooks, Dietitians, Homemakers, and Waiters

The symbolic imagery:

Martha is offering a basket of fruit to complete a meal that has obviously been enjoyed by a small familial group. This inset oval image is surrounded by culinary herbs and her name (with bees buzzing around). The border is created from fruits, vegetables, edible flowers, bread, soup and even a cup of tea (or coffee). A perfect pie rests on top of the "T." The entire piece is reminiscent of a Victorian greeting card.
This piece was inspired by my Aunt Marie, who was a dietitian, and also read to me from Butler's Lives of the Saints from the time I was about age 3.  How I loved those "bedtime stories!" -pb
